It may sound peculiar, but a northern coastal town here is set to construct its “Crab Hotel” in its efforts to further boost the town’s tourism potential as well as to fortify its being dubbed as the crab capital of the north.

According to Buguey town Mayor Licerio Antiporda III, the said hotel construction is expected to commence very soon.

Antiporda said it will be a U-shaped bungalow-type structure with 15 rooms for guests, including a special suite, and two dormitory rooms, each good for at least 30 people.

“We will popularize the hotel as a crab hotel not necessarily that it will be crab-shaped but it features some crab-like shape fixtures, like its swimming pool close to the shape of a crab,” he said. “The hotel will have crab dishes as its major come-on for visitors.”

To be constructed through a P32-million loan from theLand Bank, said hotel will become a major attraction of the El Presidente Beach Resort, probably the only local-government-run beach resort in the country.

“We intend to feature in the hotel the various recipes featuring the crab as the prime ingredient. Among these dishes is the crab sandwich which is probably the first of its kind in the country,” he said.

“In an effort to improve our tourism industry, we also institutionalized our Crab Festival by conducting it annually featuring the different sizes and kinds of crabs we have in the town and the various kinds of delicacies derived from them,” he said.
