Buguey Municipal Health Center

The Buguey Lying-In and Emergency Medical Clinic - It was established by Lloyd Antiporda during his incumbency as mayor of Buguey with the help and support of the officers and staff of the Municipal Health Office. It unofficially started its 24 hour operation on March 11, 2000 at the old fire station, now turned municipal court. The Lying-In Clinic is now housed at the renovated Rural Health Station Building. The idea behind the 24 hour operation is to provide a round the clock medical treatment or first aid to any minor injury or injuries suffered by any Bugueyano, considering the distance of the Provincial Hospitals at Camalaniugan or Aparri. But most importantly is the provision of a birthing place for pregnant women, it is indeed very costly for the poor Bugueyanos to give birth in Aparri or Camalaniugan, especially if they are confined in private hospitals. As of this writing the Lying-In clinic has now delivered more than a thousand babies since it started operating. The average cost of delivering a baby is 1,000 pesos, and it is free for the indigents. Dr. Teddy Unida is the municipal health officer of Buguey, and he also serves as the over-all in charge of its operations. Dr. Pedro Unday, Jr., a private practitioner also helped run the clinic as a medical consultant, he was then of great help to the people of Buguey. We are hoping that upon his return from the USA he will soon rejoin the team. Above all, the people behind this 24 hour operation in terms of workforce are the hardworking health workers of Buguey, nurses and midwives and their casual counterparts. The clinic has also hosted three cataract operations in the past. We just hope and pray that the healthworkers of Buguey will always be vigilant and dedicated in their service to the people. May your tribe increase!
